This guide covers the MIT Sloan MBA GMAT score, class profile, acceptance rate, admission requirements, fees, deadlines, employment outcomes, and the MIT Leaders for Global Operations (LGO) program.

What GMAT Score Do You Need for MIT Sloan MBA?

Applicants to MIT Sloan must submit a valid GMAT or GRE score. However, MIT Sloan does not publish a minimum GMAT or GRE cutoff. Therefore, the scores of the incoming class should be treated as useful benchmarks rather than minimum scores required for admission.

For the Class of 2027, the reported GMAT and GRE statistics are:

Undergraduate Background

The Class of 2027 comes from a broad range of undergraduate disciplines. Engineering represents the largest share at 27%, followed by Business at 23% and Economics at 17%. Computer Science and Science/Mathematics each account for 10% of the class.

This mix reflects Sloan's combination of technical, quantitative and business-oriented academic backgrounds.

Pre-MBA Professional Background

MIT Sloan students also enter the MBA from a variety of professional backgrounds. Consulting represents the largest share of the Class of 2027, while finance and technology are the next two largest pre-MBA industries.

MIT Sloan MBA Acceptance Rate

MIT Sloan does not currently publish an official MBA acceptance rate on its MBA admissions or class-profile pages. However, the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC) reports an acceptance rate of 18.8% for MIT Sloan in its Class of 2027 analysis.

Because this figure is reported by GMAC rather than MIT Sloan itself, it should be treated as a third-party estimate rather than an official Sloan admissions statistic. Applicants can use the class profile, test-score ranges, academic background and professional experience data as additional indicators of the competitiveness of the program.

While it may not always be feasible to improve certain aspects of your application, one aspect that is definitely in your control is your GMAT score. And the best way to increase that is by using study materials created by experts and top scorers.

Scholarships and Financial Aid

MIT Sloan follows a need-blind admissions process, meaning an applicant's ability to pay is not considered when making admission decisions. Admitted students are considered for MIT Sloan and related MIT fellowships and scholarships. Students may also explore external scholarships and education loans, although financing options can differ for domestic and international students.

Essentially speaking, most scholarships and fellowships are merit-based. This means that a standout GMAT score can significantly increase your chances of being accepted for them.

What Makes the MIT Sloan MBA Different?

Beyond its class profile and employment outcomes, the MIT Sloan MBA combines management education with MIT's emphasis on technology, analytics and applied learning.

STEM-Designated MBA

The MIT Sloan MBA is STEM designated. For eligible MIT-sponsored F-1 graduates, the designation can allow them to apply for up to a 24-month STEM OPT extension after the standard 12-month period of post-completion OPT, subject to applicable eligibility requirements.

Action Learning

MIT's mens et manus, or "mind and hand," philosophy emphasizes applying knowledge to practical problems. Through Sloan's Action Learning opportunities, students work on real organizational challenges and apply concepts learned in the classroom.

MIT Sloan states that its students and faculty have worked with more than 2,700 organizations through Action Learning.

MIT Sloan Certificates

Students can further customize the MBA through six optional certificates:

  1. Business Analytics
  2. Entrepreneurship & Innovation
  3. Finance
  4. Healthcare
  5. Product Management
  6. Sustainability

These certificates allow students to develop additional expertise in specific areas without functioning as conventional MBA majors.

What Is the MIT Sloan Leaders for Global Operations (LGO) Program?

MIT Leaders for Global Operations (LGO) is a 24-month dual-degree program that combines an MBA from MIT Sloan with a Master of Science from MIT's School of Engineering. Around 45-50 students enter LGO each year.

LGO students choose from seven engineering fields: Aeronautics and Astronautics, Chemical Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Science and Engineering, and Operations Research.

A major feature of LGO is its guaranteed six-month research internship at one of the program's 20+ partner companies. The internship combines engineering and business applications, with the research forming the basis of the student's master's thesis.

Applicants submit one application through MIT Sloan that is considered by Sloan, the School of Engineering and LGO. Candidates select an engineering field when applying. MIT LGO says successful candidates should have a strong STEM academic background and, ideally, two or more years of work experience.

For the 2026-27 LGO admission cycle, there is one application round, with a deadline of November 4, 2026. LGO interviews are scheduled for January 2027, with admission decisions expected in late February 2027.

MIT Sloan's overall Class of 2027 MBA statistics already include LGO students.

Conclusion

The MIT Sloan MBA combines a flexible management curriculum with MIT's strengths in technology, analytics, innovation, and experiential learning. With a 675 current GMAT score for the Class of 2027, a $175,000 median base salary for the Class of 2025, and opportunities such as Action Learning, optional certificates, and the LGO dual-degree program, Sloan offers several pathways for students to tailor their MBA experience.

Applicants targeting the MIT Sloan MBA should focus on building a well-rounded application rather than treating any single GMAT score or class-profile metric as an admission cutoff. Along with test preparation, candidates should carefully plan their application timeline, finances, professional references, cover letter, and other application components before applying.
