However, who can take the GMAT exam, and what are the minimum requirements for registering for the test? This article will answer these questions and provide valuable information about the GMAT eligibility criteria.

GMAT Eligibility Criteria:

Age

There is no maximum age limit to take the GMAT exam. You are eligible to take the test if you possess a bachelor’s degree from a recognized university or institution. However, there is a minimum age requirement of 18 years. If you fall between the age group of 13 and 17, you must obtain written consent from your parent or legal guardian to take the GMAT exam.

Educational Qualification

As previously mentioned, you must have completed a bachelor’s degree from a recognized university or institution to be eligible for the GMAT exam. The field of study for the degree is not specified, and there is no minimum percentage or grade point average requirement.

Nonetheless, some business schools may have specific academic prerequisites for admission, and it is recommended that you verify them before applying.

Work Experience

There is no work experience requirement to take the GMAT exam. You can take the test as a fresh graduate or working professional with several years of experience. However, some business schools may prefer candidates with relevant work experience for their MBA programs, especially for executive or part-time MBA courses. Usually, MBA programs abroad require 4-5 years of work experience. In India, the top schools accepting GMAT scores require two or more years of work experience. Therefore, you should research the admission criteria of your target schools before taking the GMAT exam.

Number of Attempts

You can take the GMAT exam up to five times in a rolling 12-month period and up to eight times in your lifetime. However, you cannot take the test more than once in 16 days. Your GMAT scores are valid for five years from your test date. Therefore, plan your test dates accordingly and aim to achieve your target score in fewer attempts.

Language Requirement

The GMAT exam is conducted in English only. Therefore, you need to have a good command of the English language to take the test and score well. You should be able to read, write, speak, and understand English at a level that allows you to communicate effectively in a business context. You should also be familiar with the vocabulary and grammar used in the GMAT exam.

Documents Required:

  • To register for the GMAT exam, you must have a valid passport as your primary identification document. You must also provide your contact details, demographic information, payment details, and other information as required by the GMAC (Graduate Management Admission Council), which administers the GMAT exam. You must verify your identity at the test centre using biometric data such as digital photographs, signatures, and palm vein patterns.
  • Your ID should have your name and date of birth in the same way as you have mentioned them in your GMAT application form. Moreover, the ID must include a recent and recognizable photograph of yourself and a signature. These requirements ensure that the ID is authentic and that you are the person who registered for the exam.
  • If your ID document does not provide sufficient or questionable information, you may be asked to show a second document from the list of acceptable IDs. This is to ensure that all the necessary information required for identification is provided and that there are no doubts about your identity. It is important to note that the GMAT test centre is rigorous regarding the ID requirements, and failure to meet them can result in being denied entry to the exam. Therefore, it is highly recommended to carefully read and understand the ID requirements before the exam day and prepare the necessary documents accordingly.
  • The GMAT exam is an excellent opportunity for MBA aspirants to showcase their potential and skills to business schools worldwide. However, before taking the test, you should know the GMAT eligibility criteria and ensure you meet them. You should also prepare well for the test and aim to achieve your target score in fewer attempts.
